We decided that we don't like to eat the chickens at the grocery stores with all the hormones and who knows what being fed to them, so we've been raising our own. The meat and the eggs are so much better for us, and they taste better too.
Check back with us often, we will have chicks for sale by the end of April, 2010.
Then we decided to expand a bit, to try to give our customers a chance to be able to eat healthier. Jerry and I have chosen to sell eggs, pullets, and full size chickens to our customers. We raise Rhode Island Reds, and we get a good amount of eggs everyday. We raise our chickens free range, they have the run of the whole property to eat whatever they want, so they have a very healthy diet, doing it that way is better for the chickens, and healthier for us. The chickens that you see that aren't RIR's will be in the freezer before long, as of now we want to stay with just one breed, a breed that is known for the eggs they produce, and also the amount of meat they have.
Some of the chickens behind the chicken coop. | Again some of the chickens behind the chicken coop. |
The chickens running their daily obstacle course! They have to stay in shape and keep those 'henly figures'! |
Looking to see if the pigs might have dropped a nibble or two, but knowing Cathy, they shouldn't bet on it. |
Some of them wandering around, tryin' to figure out what all the white stuff is, and where did all the good bugs go? |
